Originally built in 1927, the historic school has been transformed into Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar, a modern environment that boasts the largest garden patio in Dallas. The second level houses The Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection.
The story of Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar dates back to 1927 when the District of Harwood was one of Dallas’ first barrios, Little Mexico. The soul of the neighborhood, the two-story red brick building was St. Ann’s Parochial School where thousands of Hispanic children began their education. The school operated until 1974 and thereafter was at risk of being demolished. True to the Harwood Way, the building was saved, preserved, and later designated as an official Dallas Landmark.
To this day, Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar maintains a close relationship with the St. Ann’s School Alumni & Friends of Little Mexico. Many of the building’s original elements remain cared for including the exterior bricks, foundation, and the mosaic of Our Lady Guadalupe that is a focal piece in the gardens. Located on the second level of the building is The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection, the largest private collection of samurai art and armor outside Japan.
In 2020, Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar underwent an extensive renovation cueing a complete revamp of the concept from the menu to the brand’s core DNA. Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar is a New American concept inspired by wine country. Offering a locally sourced menu and trendy atmosphere of indoor and outdoor garden dining that encourages socialization and relaxation. Today, gatherings revolve around cocktails, an extensive wine list, and fresh, local ingredients.
